Brown Deer Salt Wise Winter Equipment Open House and Calibration Support

Event Dates

  • Wednesday, 11/03/2021 8:30 am - 10:30 am

Event Description

Co-hosted by Brown Deer and Cudahy.

The City of Cudahy Department of Public Works started its salt reduction program a little less than a decade ago. The first initiative was to learn the art of calibration. Properly calibrating the salting equipment resulted in a 46.5% reduction in salt and a cost savings of roughly $60,000 annually. Cudahy is now on the final step of optimization and the advice we give everyone is calibration takes work and it’s a science, but it will give you the best outcome.

We'd like to facilitate conversation around current salting practices, goals and barriers, and brainstorm solutions through a show-and-tell of municipal snow and ice management equipment. Municipal streets crews from northeastern Wisconsin are invited to bring a salting truck or just show up.

Please reach out ahead of time if you plan to bring a piece of machinery for on-site calibration support.

Coffee and pastries provided at 8:30am. Introductions - 8:45am.
