School District Smart Salting and Calibration Day

Event Dates

  • Friday, 10/28/2022 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Event Description

Wausau school district staff calibrated two trucks for the first time last winter and learned that one truck was putting out 3 TIMES as much salt as the other truck, on the same setting! Knowing that salt is a pollutant in our freshwater, and it's important to use it only as needed, staff is re-evaluating their winter maintenance practices and would like to invite others to join in this conversation around best practices.

The purpose of this event will be to support other schools, contractors, etc. in the region with the implementation of best management practices and the calibration of salting equipment. Proper calibration saves money, reduces premature aging of infrastructure, and protects our freshwater.

Your organization is invited to bring staff and one or more vehicles that are ready to be calibrated for the winter season.

We'll kick off the morning with coffee and donuts and a brief classroom component before moving outside to engage in hands-on training for the majority of the morning. In addition to calibration, this is a networking opportunity to talk and ask questions with each other.
